What is a Soft Structured Carrier?
A Soft Structured Carrier (SSC), sometimes known as a Buckle Carrier, is similar to a mei tai but uses buckles instead of ties. These are even more supportive and can be used for front or back carries. SSCs are especially good for heavy babies and toddlers. The straps are adjustable but they are designed to be worn on the hips or waist, not higher. Users of different heights may find them hard to share. Definitely try out many brands if you are having trouble getting comfortable as fit really depends on body type and personal preferences.
Pros: Best for older babies (4-6 months) to toddlers. Buckles are very dad-friendly! |
Cons: Challenging to fit since it depends on body shape. Not ideal for newborns. Several brands have extra padding or inserts meant to support a newborn but these may or may not help to provide a secure fit and comfort for both of you.
