In just an hour or two, the whole world will watch the opening ceremonies of an awesome winter sporting contest which shall remain nameless due to the most over-the-top trademark enforcement of all time. Coupled with yesterday's crazy snowfall, we thought it might be fun to have some winter fun and games of our own, right here in Boston. So - here's the scoop!
The Babywearing Games will start tonight, and will continue through February 24, with the "Closing Ceremonies" at our first-ever week night meeting (Feb 24, at Magpie Kids in Davis Square). There will be 5 medal competitions, plus a grand prize. To enter, you'll need to take a photo or video that fits with the theme of the competition and post it as a comment under the post pinned at the top of our Facebook page. Each photo needs to be tagged (be sure to use the @ and actually tag their FB page) with the carrier maker, and include as much info about the carrier as you can (model, wrap name, color, size, etc.). To win, you need people to like the reply with your photo. The most likes for each contest takes the gold, second is silver, and third is bronze.
Gold medalists get $10 off a BWI membership or renewal, Silver gets $5 off, and Bronze gets a bonus 13th month. Prizes must be claimed by March 31, 2014, and have no cash value. Prizes may be transferred, but are only good for BWI - Greater Boston and may not be applied to any other BWI chapter. Prizes may not be combined. (If you win twice, you can give away or forfeit the lesser prize, and the next photo in line will be moved up.) You may enter each contest with as many photos as you'd like. At the end of the Games, all 5 Gold medalists will be entered in a Grand Prize contest, for a $25 voucher to Comfy Joey.
You'll need to check our FB page regularly for the contest posts - unlike those 'other' games, these events don't require a lifetime of practice and training, so we're not sharing all the details ahead of time. There is one thing you can do to get ready, though - fill out a photo release. Yeah, it's kind of a pain, but the lawyers say we have to do it. And, we made it easy - just fill out this online form!
If you don't have any selfies to contribute, be sure to come to a meeting this month - we're happy to take photos for you! Plus, we might just have some other fun, special stuff going on. (Hint, hint.)
So, sit back, relax, practice your photography skills, and watch some team figure skating to get all pumped up for our first ever Babywearing Games!
